Lying Law-Mongers

Lying Law Mongers

From a letter to the editor of a Florida Newspaper:

Your front page headline “Law would make lying illegal for legislators” printed in Friday 27, April paper caught my attention and prompted me to offer commentYour short phrase speaks volumes about the true lack of personal integrity and collective conscience displayed by most of our elected leaders and appointed officials.  Why should a new act of the legislature become necessary to curb lying by those in high office?  Perhaps there is a high positive correlation between the sin of lying while in office and the number of elected officials who studied political science and attended law school.   But this simple explanation that many citizens believe to be true seems not to matter and its intrinsic truth is drowned out by many slick Television commercials.   These commercials are produced by those with a political agenda, special interest, or they are tempting you to sue your neighbor.  Diversity is now a mantra of American society.  So, let’s stop this incestuous practice of electing professional liars to public office.  We should try electing some diverse, yet ordinary, citizens who may actually care more about our great nation than themselves.  Tongue -in -cheek I say, “Our society can avoid falling further, but it is up to you and me”.

Fascists in Strange Places

Liberals' Fascism
GrassTopsUSA Guest Commentary
By Gregg Jackson and Paul Dinger

In 1964, California's liberal Governor Pat Brown didn't mince words. He described Ronald Reagan as a   "right wing extremist." He suggested his conservative opponents were fascists, "the spasm reaction of hatred." Then he painted a word picture of what happened in German beer halls 30 years earlier. As it turns out, he may prove to be right.

But oddly, fascism seems to have come to America, riding on a clever Trojan horse -- liberalism.  The Left is clamping down on free speech just like the communists do when they takeover a country. In their "first 100 days," the 2007 Democrat Congress and their house organ, the media, are looking eerily puritanical.

IslamoFascist Protectionism

PBS shelves film on moderate Muslims

By Jennifer Harper
THE WASHINGTON TIMES
April 11, 2007

A 52-minute documentary film exploring the struggles of moderate American Muslims at the hands of their radical brethren has also become a showcase for the struggles between right and left in the news media.
The producers of "Islam vs. Islamists" say their taxpayer-funded film has been shelved by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) and the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) in "an ideological vendetta," and because the production team includes conservative columnist Frank Gaffney Jr., founder of the Center for Security Policy.
"This is a well-documented, textbook case of the abuse of taxpayer funding by elements in the public broadcasting system to advocate their agenda and ensure that people who have different agenda don't get on the air," Mr. Gaffney said yesterday. "The public ought to be allowed to see a film which PBS doesn't want them to see."
His partner Martyn Burke also accused CPB and PBS of stifling the film "on political grounds."

Our Savior, Sharpton the Magnificent

Sharpton 'Terrorized' Executives

From NewsMax.com

Friday, April 27, 2007 8:43 a.m. EDT

Don Imus' former producer said Thursday that the radio exchange that got them both fired was wrong, but that it would be horrible if people could no longer poke fun at each other.

Bernard McGuirk, a 20-year producer and on-air jester for the "Imus in the Morning" program, was fired a week after his boss for the banter in which members of the Rutgers University women's basketball team were called "nappy-headed hos."

Don't allow Fascists to BAN Talk Radio

Should government ban talk radio?

April 19, 2007 | By Nathaniel Ward | Read online

Ever since the rise of conservative talk radio, liberals have been calling for a restoration of the “Fairness Doctrine” to re-regulate media and silence conservative voices. After talk radio host Don Imus—clearly no conservative—was fired last week for racially-tinged comments, calls to reinstate the Doctrine have grown louder.

When they were in force through the 1980s, Heritage regulation expert James Gattuso explains, these onerous government regulations on television and radio “required broadcasters to air both sides of controversial issues. The Doctrine’s effect was to discourage controversial issue-oriented programming.” In other words, government effectively barred conservative talk radio programs.

“It was not until this rule was repealed in the 1980s that talk show hosts like Rush Limbaugh found a place on the radio dial,” Gattuso writes.

Cho Seung-hui, Terrorist

Why was the VA Tech murderer roaming freely on a college campus?

Here's your answer (from the Wall Street Journal On-line Journal):

A DANGER TO SOCIETY

Bedlam Revisited
Why the Virginia Tech shooter was not committed.

BY JONATHAN KELLERMAN
Monday, April 23, 2007 12:01 a.m. EDT

I was in graduate school, studying clinical psychology when they began shutting down the asylums. The place was California, the time was the early 1970s, and "they" were an unprecedented confederation of progressives, libertarians and fiscal conservatives.

From the left marched battalions of self-styled mental health "liberation activists" steeped in the writings of Scottish psychiatrist R.D. Laing. Though he denied being opposed to his own profession, Laing's notion that madness could be a reasonable reaction to an unjust society, or even a vehicle for spiritual transformation, helped fuel the anti-psychiatry movement of the post Love-In era. The most radical of Laingians carried revisionism one step further: Not only wasn't psychosis a bad thing, it was evidence of a superior level of consciousness.

Cho Seung-hui run amok

Following abbreviated item is from The Wall Street Jounal, On-line Journal, Best of the Web Today:

BY JAMES TARANTO

Was Cho an 'Imminent' Threat?
Sixteen months ago, Cho Seung-hui, who was to carry out last week's Virginia Tech massacre, had an encounter with Virginia's mental-health system. As we noted Friday, after Cho spent a night in "temporary detention," a psychiatrist evaluated him, finding that he was "mentally ill" but "did not present an imminent threat" to himself or others.

We characterized the latter conclusion in passing as having been mistaken--it seemed obviously so to us--but several readers took issue, including Barton Branscum, who is a psychiatrist:

2nd Amendment by Campus Consensus

New Anti-Gun Attack Hiding

Behind Campus Tragedy

From:  Second Amendment Foundation
www.saf.org   April 27, 2007
Alarming details about the Virginia Tech tragedy underscore the importance of a citizen’s individual right to keep and bear arms.
A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." --Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution
There were abundant warning signs that gunman Cho posed a serious threat to the campus community, yet here he was running loose and committing mayhem. And all that seems to be on the minds of many in the media and at the offices of gun control extremists is figuring out how to exploit this horrible tragedy to erode and eventually destroy the right, and the means, of self-defense.

The immortal words of Edmund Burke ring loud and clear in the wake of the events at Virginia Tech. "All that is necessary for evil to succeed is that good men do nothing."

Admiral Harry Reid

Harry Reid: Traitor or

Latter-Day Copperhead?

From WSJ 4/30/07

"I believe . . . that this war is lost, and this surge is not accomplishing anything, as is shown by the extreme violence in Iraq this week."--Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid, April 19, 2007

"Resolved, that this convention does explicitly declare, as the sense of the American people, that after four years of failure to restore the Union by the experiment of war, during which, under the pretence of military necessity, or war power higher than the Constitution, the Constitution itself has been disregarded in every part, and public liberty and private right alike trodden down, and the material prosperity of the country essentially impaired, justice, humanity, liberty, and the public welfare demand that immediate efforts be made for a cessation of hostilities, with a view to an ultimate convention of the States or other peaceable means, to the end that at the earliest practicable moment peace may be restored on the basis of the federal Union of the States."--1864 Democratic platform

General Harry Reid

For Reid there's no substitute for defeat

== by David Reinhard==

http://politicalmavens.com/index.php/2007/04/26/for-reid-theres-no-substitute-for-defeat/
Nobody should ever again question Harry Reid's unwavering commitment to . . .
losing the Iraq war. The Senate majority leader has made clear he's determined
to see this fight through to defeat. He'll let nothing get in his way -- not
concern for our troops' morale, not their generals' guardedly optimistic
reports, not changing facts on the ground. No, he'll see failure where there's
success and, if need be, defeat where there's victory.

American Civil Rights Union

There is an alternative to the ACLU:  The American Civil Rights Union.  The ACRU seems to believe that commiserating with criminals and foul-mouthed (alleged) "artists" -- among other usual suspects -- is just plain stupid.

Take a look, at:

http://www.theacru.org/acru/mission_statement/

Here's an abbreviated Mission Statement:

Civil rights are the fundamental liberties that all Americans should enjoy as a matter of basic morality, as well as Constitutional protection. Several organizations exist to protect one aspect or another of our civil rights and liberties. But the American Civil Rights Union (ACRU) is dedicated to protecting our fundamental rights and liberties across the board.

The ACRU focuses, in particular, on those areas of our civil rights which are ignored, or even actively undermined, by other supposed civil liberties groups. These include the following (see details at WebSite):

Property Rights
Freedom of Religion
Equality Under the Law
Right to Keep and Bear Arms
Individual Liberty and Federalism

"Forty-three years ago last Saturday, marine biologist Rachel Carson died. Known for her 1962 alarmist tome Silent Spring, which warned that the large-scale use of synthetic pesticides, such as DDT, would upset the food chain and prove carcinogenic to humans, many consider Carson’s work responsible for instigating the American environmentalist movement."
